Some
areas of management often differ significantly between companies or
farms, for example, gilt and sow feeding regimes, service timing protocols
and gilt acclimatisation procedures. In order to ensure that training
with the Pig Skills Manuals can accommodate such differences, the training
system includes a series of Farm Protocols that can be customised to
reflect individual company policy.

Many
items of documentation are used on the farm for recording such things
as performance data, pig numbers, temperatures, water consumption and
feed intake. The Pig Skills Manuals training system includes instruction
on the accurate completion of farm records and the PPT Farm Documentation
provides examples of records such as the Gilt Group Card, Breeding Card
and Farrowing Card, which are widely referred to in the Skills Manuals.
For training purposes the record card specific to the farm should be
used where possible, but the PPT cards can also be used as a comparison.
